Bio

DARRYL L. LEWIS was born and raised in Lexington, Ky.  In July 1986, Mr. Lewis completed his undergraduate studies at Kentucky State University.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and graduated summa cum laude.  He completed his undergraduate studies in three years.  In December 1988, he graduated from the University Of Kentucky College Of Law.  Mr. Lewis was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1989 and the Kentucky Bar in 1990.  He is also a member of the Federal Trial Bar for the Southern District of Florida.

 

Mr. Lewis began his legal career in October 1989, in a plaintiff personal injury law firm in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.  In 1999, Mr. Lewis joined the firm of Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley.   Mr. Lewis is a partner/shareholder in the firm of Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley and presently serves on the firm’s Executive Committee.    Mr. Lewis has represented individuals in various personal injuries and wrongful death claims in state and federal courts.  The type of claims include medical malpractice, products liability, premise liability, automobile and tractor trailer negligence, railroad negligence, airline negligence, nursing home abuse, police misconduct and civil rights violations.  In addition to representing individuals throughout the State of Florida, he has represented individuals in Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Washington.

Mr. Lewis has earned a national reputation as a trial attorney.  He is named in the Best Lawyers in America, is recognized in Florida Trend magazine as one of the legal elite and named in the South Florida Legal Guide as one of Florida’s top lawyers.  In addition, Mr. Lewis is recognized as one of Florida’s Super Lawyers, an annual consumer’s guide published by Law and Politics.

Mr. Lewis has served two terms as a member of the board of directors of the Florida Justice Association, formerly known as The Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, and is a recipient of The Academy’s Silver EAGLE award.  He is also a member of the National Bar Association, the Palm Beach County Justice Association, formerly known as the Palm Beach County Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice, formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Palm Beach County Bar Association, and the Kentucky Academy of Trial Lawyers.   He currently serves on the Executive Council of the Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar.  He serves on the Board of Directors for AIEG (Attorney Information Exchange Group).    In addition, he served three terms on the Board of Trustees for the American Association for Justice, National College of Advocacy.

An inspiring public speaker, Mr. Lewis is invited to speak multiple times a year to lawyers from all over the country.  Mr. Lewis often speaks before graduating classes, civic associations, and youth groups about issues affecting young people. He was selected by the former Governor of Kentucky to deliver the keynote address at the state’s second annual Martin Luther King Day celebration.

Mr. Lewis has served proudly in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Judge Advocate General (JAG Lawyer).
