Bio

For nearly 17 years, Mr. Janik has represented a wide-range of clients including Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, research universities, business executives, inventors, and investors.

Mr. Janik joined the prestigious and nationally-recognized trial firm of McKool Smith, P.C. when he graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 2002. His legal career began with representation of the Enron Unsecured Creditors Committee. He was part of a group of lawyers who investigated the wrong-doings of Enron’s advisors in an attempt to recover their ill-gotten gains. As his career progressed at McKool Smith, he helped executives recover millions of dollars stolen by a large, multi-national bank; he represented an international consulting firm sued as part of a bankruptcy; and helped settle a dispute between land owners and the operator of an 800-mile natural gas pipeline stretching from Texas to Florida.

In 2005, Janik was asked to help defend a medical device manufacturer against patent infringement claims. He jumped at the opportunity, and has been practicing intellectual property law ever since. In additional to representing both patent infringement plaintiffs and defendants, he has experience in the fields of trade secrets, copyright, trademark, and patentability.

Today, Mr. Janik’s practice is a blend of litigation—both commercial and patent—and a business law practice that has been honed over the years through helping clients work deals settling multi-million cases, using corporate laws to help mitigate business risks, and implementing strategies to help avoid litigation. To date, Mr. Janik has obtained over $100 million in judgments and settlements for his clients.
