Utilizing his skills as a trial lawyer and his deep knowledge of genomic science, Kirk has lead multidisciplinary teams that have won trials and arbitrations involving over $1 billion, with well over $320 million collected in multiple plaintiff’s cases. For professional and personal reasons, Kirk spent more than 15 years developing extensive knowledge regarding genomics and precision medicine treatments of cancers, including identification of cancers and other diseases caused in whole or in part by inherited genetic abnormalities. He has successfully put his science and law skills to work in both paid and pro bono lawsuits, and through advocacy outside of litigation.

Kirk’s extensive knowledge of genomics, cancer and other diseases has been applied in commercial contexts by working extensively with Ph.D. scientists through ToxicoGenomica, an alliance of separate companies. The multidisciplinary members of the ToxicoGenomica alliance have dramatically changed outcomes in tort lawsuits by deploying their skills in law, molecular biology and genomics in literally hundreds of lawsuits, and have worked with both defense and plaintiff lawyers. The lawsuits have involved “cancer clusters,” individual lawsuits and “mass tort” claims, as well as pro bono cases for individuals seeking access to better cancer care. Kirk’s non-litigation advocacy has included over a decade serving as an unpaid director of a national not for profit focused on the legal rights of persons with cancer (Triage Cancer.org). Kirk also has organized and/or spoken at dozens of events focused on legal and scientific issues involving cancer and/or precision medicine.
