Bio

Mark Bernstein is a partner in the Litigation Practice Group of the Chicago Office of Akerman LLP.  He is admitted to practice in Illinois, and is a member of the Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.  He has also practiced in state courts, federal district courts and courts of appeal throughout the United States.  Mark’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, including class action defense.

Mark’s clients include financial services companies, manufacturers and companies involved in the construction and demolition industries.  He has represented clients in cases involving claims of fraud, deceptive practices, violations of state and federal consumer protection statutes, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and violations of ERISA.  He has tried cases involving claims of professional liability, securities fraud, commodities fraud, construction delays and cost overruns, land use, breach of warranty, long-term supply contracts, post-closing indemnity and state taxation.

Mark graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Accountancy (high honors), and passed the CPA exam upon graduation.  He has a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (cum laude), and was Order of the Coif and a member of the Law Review.  Since 2006, Mark has been an instructor for the University of Chicago Law School Intensive Trial Practice Workshop.
